Aarhus University has signed an agreement with the Ministry of the Environment and Food on the provision of policy support to the authorities in 13 research areas. Within each of these areas, the university is obliged to carry out research at a high international standard.
One of these thematic areas is titled Bioeconomy, bioenergy and rural development.
Research in this area should meet the requirements of the agrifood industry and society for the development and testing of new sustainable business areas and models, supply chains, value chains, production processes and technologies that promote a sustainable and resource-efficient commercial use of biological materials and promote commercial development, employment and development in rural areas.
Research in biobased production is also being done in other thematic areas, but to a lesser extent.
