Reducing Inequality in Access to Higher Education:

An Intervention Study

The project

The objective of the project is to develop an intervention that can reduce social inequality in access to higher education programmes in Denmark. A recent study revealed that, even among upper secondary students with above average grades (over 9 on the Danish grading scale) who acquired eligibility for higher education, social background plays a significant role: only 52% of highly performing school-leavers with unskilled parents entered a university programme in the period from 2008-2010, compared with 85% of those whose parents had a university degree.
