The ProFish project will characterise the disease-causing bacteria that especially during summertime result in disease outbreaks in Danish fish farming, and develop customized effective vaccines as prevention is better than cure. This will improve the welfare of farmed fish and provide a more environmentally friendly products with no loss due to disease outbreaks and with a minimal need for antibiotics. There will thus be the platform for a sustainable expansion of marine aquaculture in Denmark and the food industry as well as consumers will be better able to bear healthy ingredients produced in Denmark.
