What is the project about?

Dear families

We are a small project group at Aarhus University researching everyday life and school life. Like you, we are experiencing how we all have had to find completely new everyday routines with our children in a very short time. And this is important to understand and follow. Therefore, we are working on a small research project entitled: 'Changed everyday practices and lives of children and families due to COVID' and we would like to invite you to take part in the project.

We are running the project because the vast majority of us have been ordered home due to COVID. As many as 1.3 million children have been sent home from their daycare centres, schools, etc. and many school children and parents have to work from home. Here, family life unfolds in completely new ways. It's not a weekday, weekend or holiday. We have to work as well as homeschool, while taking extra care of each other and avoiding infection. The usual social activities are not possible, new activities are emerging at home and perhaps in nature without getting close to other people. Many family relationships are also being rethought during this time, with many families not being able to see grandparents, for example, as they used to.

Therefore, we were wondering if you would like to:

  • Talk to us (over Skype) about your new everyday life? We would like to talk to both children and parents.
  • Share 'everyday moments'? Take photos of where you are (it could be the view from inside your home or room) and what you're doing and how you're passing time.
  • Write diaries or make video diaries where you talk about what you're doing? It would be great if you could do this every five days. And feel free to tell us about both good and difficult things in your new life.

You don't have to do all of it but write to us and we'll send more information and a formal consent for participation (this is required for research projects).

You're welcome to contact us at: familielivcorona.arts.edu@au.dk
